The VB-C500VD vandal resistant mini dome network camera is ideally suited for a wide variety of applications where discreet high quality surveillance over a network is important - making it the perfect choice for monitoring correctional facilities, transportation areas, financial institutions, schools and retail stores. The vandal resistant dome minimizes damage to the camera caused by tampering or vandalism. Featuring an 82° wide horizontal field-of-view and exceptional low-light performance, this versatile mini-dome network camera maintains exceptional image clarity throughout the entire field of view, in a variety of lighting conditions. Canon's exclusive DIGIC NET technology ensures high image quality and high speed communication. An advanced pivoting axis lets you position the camera at exactly the angle you need, while genuine Canon optics ensure the sharpest, most color-perfect images possible.
Vandal resistant housing
The exterior of the VB-C500VD is comprised of high-shock resistant materials, reducing the possibility of outer damage caused by vandalism. The base is made of a heat-resistant polycarbonate and ABS mixture, the body from tough alloyed aluminum, and the dome cover casing is made of strong polycarbonate plastic.
82° wide angle lens with 2.4x optical zoom
The VB-C500VD features a genuine Canon wide angle lens with an 82° horizontal field of view, providing installation flexibility for a number of different applications and locations such as stores, offices, and auditoriums. Thanks to Canon's genuine optics, the lens maintains exceptional image clarity throughout the entire field of view.
Progressive scan CCD
The VB-C500VD utilizes a progressive-scan CCD to allow for the capture of noise-less, high quality video (M-JPEG or MPEG-4) of moving subjects. Genuine Canon optics combined with the high-sensitivity CCD provides optimal contrast, and the primary-color CCD also delivers excellent colors and tonal quality, even in low light.
Exceptional low light performance
The VB-C500VD's bright lens combined with a high-sensitivity CCD and Canon's proprietary imaging engine, work together to provide exceptional low light performance for clear visibility of camera subject and surroundings. You can even see color images down to low as 0.2 lux of light.
Color video at 0.2 lux
Thanks to the high image quality processes in Canon's proprietary DIGIC NET processing engine, the VB-C500VD is capable of capturing color images of subjects with brightness as low as 0.2 lux, making the VB-C500VD ideal for video monitoring of locations with variable lighting.
Auto day/night with digital night mode
The auto day/night mode feature switches automatically in dark night-time conditions. When monitoring in nighttime and other low light conditions, the VB-C500VD's digital night mode will automatically change from color video monitoring to monochrome video monitoring without interruption caused by insertion/removal of an IR cut filter. Thanks to Canon's wide angle lens, its large aperture, and improved digital sensitivity, the VB-C500VD ensures smooth, high-quality video with minimal noise. In addition, you can select up to five different brightness levels for auto day/night switching, to provide options for a wider range of environments.
Smart shade control
If the background of an image is too bright to see main subjects, the VB-C500VD allows you adjust the contrast of the darker areas to make it easier to see. Unlike backlight compensation, the shade correction adjusts darker areas of the image while maintaining the brightness of the brighter areas so the background image remains clear. Since this process occurs in the camera, image degradation is minimized and the load on the system is reduced.
M-JPEG and MPEG4 video
The VB-C500VD allows you to record video in either M-JPEG or MPEG-4 video formats. M-JPEG captures a stream of individual JPEG images, while MPEG4 captures changes to images to create video. Each has its advantages based on your monitoring needs. The high image quality of M-JPEG video is suited for live monitoring, while MPEG-4 is ideal for recording due to its smaller file size and lighter network load.
IEEE 802.3af compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE)
The VB-C500VD supports IEEE 802.3af compliant Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, which allows the use of a single LAN cable to both power the camera and transfer video and audio data when connected to a PoE switch. Because a power cable is not required, the camera can be installed at sites without readily accessible AC outlets. And because PoE eliminates the cost of running expensive power cabling to the device, installation costs are kept to a minimum. There is no need for additional electrical constructions once you connect the camera to a PoE switch.
The VB-C500VD has built-in motion detection capability, allowing you to set up to four motion detection areas with varying levels of sensitivity. Pre-recorded audio can also be set to playback. In addition, the VB-C500VD has an image upload and email notification feature. When subject motion is detected or if an external sensor is triggered, the camera is equipped to automatically send the images to a desired location via FTP/HTTP/SMTP. For example, the camera can automatically send images to a mobile phone or email address. Pre-recorded audio can also be set to playback.
Full duplex two-way audio
The VB-C500VD can transmit and receive audio in real time from an authorized networked PC. Simultaneous two-way audio allows administrators logged in to the admin viewer web interface, to listen in on a camera site, make announcements to the scene of the camera, or do both at the same time.
On-screen display functionIn The Box
With VB-C500VD's on-screen display function, the date, time, and camera name can be embedded into the video. Displaying the camera name on the video helps to distinguish different cameras at a glance. Embedding the date and time eliminated the need to search for date and time information. To improve the visibility of the information, users can also change the display position, color of the text, and color of the text outline.
