The CA ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Windows is a service installed on the network client machines to act as a remote receptacle for the CA ARCserve Backup server. The agent works to improve data transfer, network security, job monitoring, and real-time directory browsing.
The agent contains separate internal client engines that help reduce the resource intensive processes for the CA ARCserve Backup server. With the agent properly installed and configured, a system administrator can use CA ARCserve Backup to effectively retrieve data from remote Windows machines. In real-time, the agent browses the targeted directories and packages the data to be transmitted in pulses of large data packets. The CA ARCserve Backup host server then prepares the data to be stored on the designated storage devices.
These simultaneous processes between the target client machine and the host backup system translate to a more efficient backup job process.
With push technology, processing the data locally at the workstations thereby off-loading the system resources from the CA ARCserve Backup host server completes the backup job more efficiently. Using the push technology, the agent can also minimize network traffic by sending data in large pulses of data packets during backup or restore jobs.
TCP/IP protocol support
It ensures full support with advanced browsing capabilities.
Real-time remote browsing
With the agent installed, the system administrator can view detailed file and directory information about the remote target machine in real-time.
One Client agent can handle different requests and perform multiple jobs at the same time.
CA ARCserve Backup supports software compression for data transport and archival needs.
All Windows client agent backup jobs can be encrypted with a session/encryption password to enhance network security.
CA ARCserve Backup servers can automatically discover agents for Windows installed on the network.
The Windows client agent can be installed remotely on any Windows machine from any Windows machine on your network.
Easy to use, Explorer-like Agent Admin program that allows multi-streaming job scans, and status updates.
Improved merging performance
CA ARCserve Backup will insert a directory of disk files in the CA ARCserve Backup database and also directly on the media to index stored data. This method will improve performance when merging media to the CA ARCserve Backup database or filtering directories and files using the push technology.
Virus scanning is an integrated agent level virus scanning support.
Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) verification support
The Client Agent will generate Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) codes for all the files it is sending to CA ARCserve Backup for backup to be verified without requiring the original source files.
Password security option
Password security option supports Windows client agent level passwords.
The Windows client agent is able to restore sessions created by earlier released versions of CA ARCserve Backup Client Agent for Windows.
Enhanced detailed registry backup
You can back up your Windows Registry entries to the key level (Windows clients only).
Access Control List
An Access Control List for the agent allows you to control which CA ARCserve Backup server can access the machine through the agent.
Configurable port address
This enables you to select a specific port address to be used by the Agent Admin for machines with more than one network card.
