EMC Replication Manager relies upon disk-based replicas (snap, clone, or mirror copies) as the foundation of the recovery operation. Replicas can now be used for backup acceleration and restoration of table spaces and filesystems, or for simplifying and automating data refreshes in development testing, quality assurance, and reporting cycles.
With Replication Manager, you can leverage fewer people for more complex tasks, such as replication, enhancing the value of your IT infrastructure. Availability is also improved because the complexity of deploying and managing replications and the subsequent recovery from them is reduced significantly. For example, a database administrator can validate the integrity of a database or create a reporting copy of the database for users.
Replication Manger uses specialized agent software to communication with the database of files system that is being replicated. Replication Manger Agent software is installed on each host that participates in the replication process, including hosts that mange production data and hosts that are used to mount and back up replicas.
Replication makes good business sense
The growth of data is driving longer backup and recovery windows. Many other business processes, such as refreshing a reporting instance, generating copies of data for testing, and recovering from a disaster are taking much longer. The decreasing cost of disk storage makes use of replication technologies more attractive for enabling real time backup and recovery. Application images can instantly be transferred between servers or between sites.
Replicate and accelerate
IT infrastructure management is becoming increasingly complex. The need for constant information availability, multi-terabyte databases, and the ability to manage and support complex infrastructures are just a few of the challenges you face every day. Replication Manager enables you to reduce complexity, provide better IT support for the business, and improve the flow of information throughout your enterprise. With Replication Manager, discovery of the environment is automated, allowing you to easily schedule replications. With its built-in intelligence, Replication Manager places applications in the proper state for application-consistent replicas which can be mounted to alternate hosts for accelerated backups, instant restore, development/test, or moving data to lower-cost storage.
Simplify and automateProduct Highlights
EMC Replication Manager eliminates most scripting and manual mapping of filesystems and applications to storage and replaces them with an intuitive point-and-click interface, pull-down menus, and wizards. It looks and feels like many familiar web-enabled applications. Because of this simplicity and the policy-based management this solution implements, Replication Manager functions can be initiated and used by the IT staff responsible for applications and not necessarily by storage or replication experts. Multiple user roles with varying privileges enable self-sufficiency within the organization. This enables much more productive use of an organization's limited resources to respond to all the critical tasks that add value to a business.
- Creates and manages application-consistent replicas for backup acceleration, instant restore, development/test, and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) with little to no impact on production
- Streamlines operations via a "single pane of glass" for simplified replica management
- Point-and-click management interface for EMC clone, snap, and mirror products with numerous wizards for ease of use
- Automates the discovery of storage arrays, applications, replication technologies, and hosts in the environment
- Saves valuable time by automating the scheduling, mounting, dismounting, and expiration of EMC replicas
- Facilitates self-sufficiency through user accounts with varying privileges
- Ideal for physical and VMware ESX server environments
