Federated storeonce deduplication
HP Data Protector 7 is an excellent solution in the market that addresses deduplication at three locations - application source, backup server, and target device - within the data center's data protection architecture. Powered by the industry's most advanced deduplication engine, HP storeonce, the solution provides the option in the market that allows organizations to deduplicate data once across multiple locations, enabling zero-hydration replication support. This allows organizations to maximize their critical storage resources through the most efficient deduplication, while meeting critical business SLAs and minimizing backup infrastructure related costs.
Meaning based protection
With integration of Autonomy's IDOL technology, HP Data Protector 7 enables administrators to gain greater insights, manage information intelligently and expand control within their data center. IDOL is a platform in the market that provides a conceptual understanding of data by understanding its meaning in the context in which it was created and is being utilized. IDOL itself has access to over 500 discreet functions that allow it to understand the meaning of information in place and support for over 1000+ file types. In addition, it can connect to over 400 repositories of information and make sense of 100% of all human information - structured and unstructured information. Through the integration of IDOL and HP Data Protector 7, backup administrators can take full advantage of contextual search, based on meaning. This integration allows organizations to integrate with powerful information governance tools, such as Autonomy Legal Hold (ALH), autonomy eDiscovery and early case assessment and provides a foundation for policy-based protection and meaning based protection. With this capability, HP Data Protector 7 now has the ability to fully leverage and orchestrate advanced data management capabilities across the enterprise.
Cloud based backup
Data Protector can now extend backup to the cloud blending the two worlds of on-premise and secure hosted backup into one offering. This exciting feature extends HP's best of class on-premise data protection solution (HP Data Protector) to a highly scalable, globally dispersed, data protection cloud service. This capability brings the power and simplicity of cloud based back up to the traditional data center. HP Data Protector's cloud backup feature leverages autonomy's 14 global cloud data centers, today it manage over 50 PBs of customer information worldwide and with this service the HP Data Protector customers gain access to the world's largest private cloud. Autonomy's cloud has the highest levels of both physical and logical security and high available. Each protected server's information is sent encrypted in transit from a network perspective, and stored in a secure format using AES 256-bit encryption. All protected data is mirrored across multiple data center locations and resides in a secure multi-tenant scalable data protection cloud service.
Granular Recovery Extension
HP Data Protector builds on a history of application owner centric recovery tools. The GRE capability allows application administrators to recover single items directly through the application console without burdening IT staff. The GRE is directly integrated into the Microsoft management console. This allows Microsoft exchange server administrators and HP Data Protector backup administrators to easily recover a variety of exchange objects through a simple, easy to use interface. It allows for single item recovery of things such as mail, calendar and contact related items.
