vCenter Operations Enterprise collects performance data from monitored software and hardware resources, stores it, analyzes it, and uses that analysis to provide you with real-time information about problems, or potential problems, anywhere in pour enterprise. It leverages the power of your existing system management tools by aggregating data from different sources and processing them with its proprietary analytic algorithms.
vCenter Operations Enterprise presents its data and analysis to you in several ways: through Smart Alerts that warn of potential or occurring problems, in configurable dashboards that can show the exact combination of data you want to see, on predefined pages that show commonly needed information, or in a number of predefined reports.
Installation and deployment
vCenter Operations Enterprise can connect to a SQL Server database using Windows authentication. The product is no longer installed with configured limits to the number of resources and metrics.
Application Programming Interface (API)
The Adapter Framework was redesigned to consolidate three different APIs into one API with two different interfaces. If data collection fails, improved error handling clearly notifies the user about the point of failure.
High availability and scalability
vCenter Operations Enterprise Platform was created to separate the user interface from the back end engine for analytical processing of data.
A mathematical model for aggregate anomaly detection is added to improve accuracy in generating alarms for dynamic threshold violations. Dynamic threshold calculation performance is improved in all analytics plug-ins. The health calculation algorithm was improved.
Tools and utilities
The reporting repository adapter tool populates either a relational database or a comma-separated text file with a subset of data from the vCenter Operations Enterprise FSDB on a set schedule.
