VMware vShield Endpoint strengthens security for virtual machines while improving performance for endpoint protection by orders of magnitude. vShield Endpoint offloads antivirus and anti-malware agent processing to a dedicated secure virtual appliance delivered by VMware partners. The solution is designed to leverage existing investments by allowing customers to manage antivirus and anti-malware policies for virtualized environments with the same management interfaces they use to secure physical environments.
VMware vShield Endpoint optimizes antivirus and other host and endpoint security for use in VMware vSphere, and VMware View, environments. Offload key antivirus and anti-malware functions to a hardened, tamperproof security virtual machine, eliminating agent footprint. The robust and secure hypervisor introspection capabilities in vSphere prevent compromise of the antivirus and anti-malware service. vShield Endpoint plugs directly into vSphere and consists of hardened secure virtual appliance (delivered by VMware partners), a driver for virtual machines to offload file events, and VMware Endpoint security (EPSEC) to link the first two components at the hypervisor layer.
Streamline antivirus and anti-malware deployment
Deploy enterprise antivirus engine and signature file to a single security virtual machine instead of each and every individual virtual machine on a vSphere host.
Improve virtual machine performance
Securely achieve higher consolidation ratios by the same offload mechanism as described above.
Reduce system requirements
Consolidate all antivirus updates to a secure virtual appliance.
Protect antivirus security software from attack
Deploy and run the antivirus and anti-malware client software in a hardened security virtual machine to prevent targeted attacks.
Antivirus and anti-malware offloading
File scanning and other tasks are offloaded from virtual machines to a secure virtual appliance. VMware endpoint security (EPSEC) manages communication between virtual machines and the secure virtual appliance, using introspection at the hypervisor layer.
Antivirus and anti-malware service across virtual machines
Antivirus engine and signature files are only updated within the secure virtual appliance, but policies can be applied across all virtual machines on a vSphere host.
Pre-defined policies dictate whether a malicious file should be deleted, quarantined or otherwise handled. vShield Endpoint driver manages file remediation activity within the virtual machine.
Integration of VMware vShield Endpoint with security virtual machine solutions from VMware partners is facilitated through VMware Endpoint Security, which provides a library and API for introspection into file activity at the hypervisor layer.
Policy and configuration management
vShield Manager for full-featured configuration of vShield Endpoint policies. vCenter to activate vShield capabilities on vSphere. REST APIs for customized integration of vShield Endpoint capabilities into solutions.
Logging based on syslog standardProduct Highlights
REST APIs and vShield Manager provide access to third-party logging and auditing tools. Administrator defines logging on/off for antivirus and anti-malware file activity such as scanning.
- Improve consolidation ratios and performance by eliminating anti-virus "storms"
- Streamline antivirus and anti-malware deployment and monitoring in VMware environments
- Satisfy compliance and audit requirements through logging of antivirus and anti-malware activities
