Strengths: Tremendous amount of features available to you.
With the service contract, an extremely large amount of information and technical assistance to back you up.
Those who are familiar with PIX CLI will enjoy the familiar feel of the ASA CLI.
Weaknesses: The ASDM (The GUI) is sharp, but does lack the 'certainty' of the CLI.
Don't forget to get the service contract! With No contract, there is no software for the VPN and no upgrades.
Summary: Regarding the ASDM, the interface gives quite a bit of instant information. However, when you make an error in a configuration, you only know when you attempt to commit the page you're working on. In instances where the error is somewhat vague, you're left trying to figure out what exactly was applied and what was not.
If you have never interacted with Cisco before, let this be a warning to you all: Unlike other companies, Cisco will not support their product unless a software contract is in place. That means... no VPN software. No Firmware Updates. No access to the mountain of help data that requires a user permission greater than 'guest'.
I would recommend the product to anyone who wants a serious piece of hardware. Consider hiring an engineer or training for awhile before purchasing this product. This isn't a product that the average 'IT Guy' in your company can simply pick up at the store and install the next day.
