The RV042 comes with dual Internet ports that can serve as a failsafe system for 24/7 network uptime, or as a secondary connection to a separate Internet provider. Strengths: Powerful router for this price range. Many options and capabilities not found on home models.
Weaknesses: VPN is a tricky to set up.
Summary: I purchased this model because standard Linksys home routers seem to have a high failure rate in the first two years. Most likely heat related. This router can be set up for a simple home network using basic networking settings or can be used for more advanced network structure. My new Windows Home Server OS had no problem recognizing and perform network setup features. The router has two WAN type inputs, useful for a backup or second DSL or Cable modem input.

Strengths: Web management interface is good, dual-wan capability
Weaknesses: The WAN failover is difficult to get working (I couldn't get it to work in load-balancing).
Summary: I bought this router for it's WAN fail-over capabilities. They are average at best. However, I am not sure if there is a better product at this time which has better failover anyway.
I was happy with PC Super Store's price and service.

Strengths: Gateway-to-gateway IpSEC VPN connections are extremely stable. I installed about 12 RV042 routers at my customer's locations, and never had problems so far. Router was proven to establish stable IPSeC gateway-to-gatevay VPN tunnels with various SonicWall (TZ170, TZ180), Linksys (BEFVP41, BEFSX41, WRV200), Xincom 503, and Netgear 318 VPN routers. Router offers dual WAN capability and propietory VPN client software.
Weaknesses: VPN client software does not work reliably.
Summary: All in all, you are getting solid reliable dual WAN VPN router at a reasonable price. Better probably would be just SonicWall, but it is much more expensive, and has some limitations.
If you do not need to establish client-to-gateway IPSEC VPN connections, the router is what you need.
