Mfg Part #: DCS-5300G

D-Link DCS 5300G

Remotely watch and listen with the D-Link SECURICAM Network DCS-5300G Internet Security Camera. The DCS-5300G is a fully-featured surveillance system that connects to an Ethernet or wireless broadband network to provide remote high-quality video and audio. Using the latest 802.11g wireless technology, the DCS-5300G securely communicates at a maximum wireless signal of up to 54Mbps.

You can safely access and control the DCS-5300G using Internet Explorer version 6 from anywhere in the world. Watch and listen remotely as the DCS-5300G captures both sound and video of your site. The DCS-5300G Wireless Security Camera uses a CCD sensor that provides sharp and clear video with life-like color representation.

The DCS-5300G Wireless Security Camera has a pan, tilt, and zoom function that can be controlled from the Web interface or from the included remote control. Pan the security camera up to 270 degrees horizontally and tilt it up to 90 degrees vertically. The pan/tilt speed can be adjusted to your preference. 4x digital zoom lets you remotely zoom in on all the action for close-up viewing.

The DCS-5300G adheres to the Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) specification, which allows computers running Windows XP/Me to automatically recognize the DCS-5300G and add it to your network without requiring additional configuration. The DCS-5300G Wireless Security Camera can be accessed and viewed from "My Network Places" as a device on the network.

By signing up with one of the many free Dynamic DNS services available on the Web, you can assign an easy-to-remember name and domain to the camera. This allows you to remotely access your security camera without having to remember the IP address, even if it has been changed by your Internet Service Provider.

Everything needed to get started is included with the DCS-5300G Wireless Security Camera. Simple installation procedures, along with the built-in Web-based interface offer easy integration into your network environment. A powerful surveillance software is included to enhance the monitoring and security management of the DCS-5300G. You can record high quality video to your hard drive using MPEG4 compression, playback video, monitor as many as 16 cameras on a single screen, and set up motion detection to trigger automatic recording and e-mail alerts. The DCS-5300G Wireless Security Camera is a cost-effective and versatile security solution for your home or business.

The DCS-5300G Wireless Security Camera comes with detachable antennas with reverse SMA connectors. By simply attaching a D-Link Wireless antenna, you can increase the wireless range of the DCS-5300G.

Strengths: reasonable video quality. has wi-fi. comes with software to run camera

Weaknesses: does not support WPA2 encryption. comes with 2 software packages and neither activates patrol feature on a timer

Summary: I got this camera because it's the only one with the features I needed at reasonable price. However it's not at all easy to figure out esp WiFi part. and I am pretty good with setting up computers. D-Link support wasn't much help. And right now I still having trouble that it stops recording after 9 hours

Strengths: Great inexpensive wireless camera, easy to install.

Weaknesses: It has a digital zoom but useless because of the fuzzy picture.

Summary: It's great for what I use it for, keeping an eye on the other place.

Strengths: remote monitoring

Weaknesses: requires Windows Internet Explorer to view video. I have a Macintosh, so that doesn't help.

Summary: I would really like to see DLink fully embrace the Macintosh platform and make the software work universally, or platform independent. Not everyone has Windoze.

Strengths: Fairly easy set-up, works as advertised, web administrative interface is nice, quality of picture and sound is good, features are nice.

Weaknesses: CCD lens is manual focus and could maybe of a bit higher quality. Otherwise, the web interface could benefit from a little more polishing and D-Link's support can be fairly mediocre at times.

Summary: Basically a very good camera. If I had to do it over, I might buy the more advanced model with better zoom and auto-focus, but for what this camera costs and what it offers, it's a great value. We have used it as a "baby cam" so our out-of-town relatives can peek in on our newborn, and it has worked wonderfully in that regard.

Strengths: The ability to pan and tilt with this camera are great. The ability to zoom is also a plus, and the built in server features with the ability to view it via http is great. The camera also uses 802.11g which speeds up everything immensly.

Weaknesses: Sometimes disconnects randomly.

Summary: The camera overall is great. I currently have 12 of these in use and are overall excellent. The only down side is that sometimes they must be unplugged in order to reconnect to the network. Besides that and the somewhat un-userfriendly sotware a great camera.
