Strengths: This item is system specific and not adjustable so its strength is evident in its basic functionality and though it only supports SATA I drives, it didn't produce adverse reactions when I used a SATA II item. You don't need an extra pair of rubber side rails used with the primary h.d.d. location; the sides of the bare drive meet metal contacts on the adapter and there is a flip up/down lock to keep it in place. Removal of the adapter employs the same internal mechanism as with the optical drive it replaces. There are no moving parts, none to remove.
Weaknesses: Nothing experienced; the device is typically sturdy, yet light.
Summary: As usual, discovering weakness yields strength: I neglected to investigate enough and typically didn't ask any 'stupid' questions regarding this device. I knew to gain the most from an additional h.d.d. required internal placement and that this was the only option for my laptop, yet I purchased the drive (more detail, more excitement, thus less patience applied) first before discovering, upon seeing the device in hand, that it only supported the lower SATA rate. Knowing the original drive ran at 7200 rpm, I looked forward to top qualities in the additional drive for a great laptop, forgetting that the best transfer rate wasn't applicable to the laptop itself.
