Strengths: its a comprehensive word processing document. I purchased it for my son. He also to uses the powerpoint presentations for school and the improvements are amazing --most and best ever in an update

Weaknesses: it does feel like a whole new system --the layout is different, hard to find commands. The biggest problem is the auto-correct & auto format features. Sometimes, my son gets VERY frustrated because he can't work around them. Outlook downloads too many Rss feeds too.

Summary: We'll get used to the new features and learn to work around the auto correct commands. Its sophisticated, produces neat documents and its nice that it interfaces well, with everything --as long as the rest of the world is on Word2007. It does have a bit of the Orwellian, Big Brother is watching you flavor to it given the sophistication and auto features.

Summary: I'm getting used to the new programs, there are a lot of changes but once you get used to them they're pretty terriffic. I especially like Outlook, you can color code emails, flag them and they will show up on your task list. Also it syncs with Google calendar so if you're not at your computer, you can add appointments to your Google calendar and they will show up on your desktop.

Strengths: Once I got used to the radical changes, I found the product pretty logical in the way it works. Help feature is far superior to 2002 (my previous version of Office) so that helps when one hits a snag.

Weaknesses: It takes a while to get used to (I've only used Word so far). Being a long time Office user, I'm not going to buy manuals for the various component softwares, so I just winged it. After getting somewhat acclimated I still find that I have to use the help feature from time to time to find basic commands. Still prefer the previous menu-driven system.

Summary: Apparently this is the future for Office. I preferred not to have to upgrade from 2002, but my understanding was Vista (on my new laptop) was not necessarily friendly with previous Office versions. I figured now was the time to take the dive. Jarring at first (I've only needed to use Word so far) in its differences to previous versions, it's not bad once one gets used to it. I still prefer the menu/icon based software, but I guess I need to keep up with the times.

Strengths: I am a high school student and I like the functionality of all the software, especially Word and Powerpoint that I use a lot.

Weaknesses: Microsoft changed the command interface quite a lot. It takes a bit of learning to use it first. Also I did not like the fact that the Outlook2007 will not import my addressbook and emails from Outlook 2002 (that was a big bummer!). Otherwise I would rate this software bundle "excellent"

Summary: Overall, it is a good software bundle at a good price, especially to a high school student. Inability to import my old emails and addressbook from Outlook 2002 was the biggest drawback that I have encountered.

Weaknesses: Word is strange now- the familiar icons have changed and been dumbed down a bit. Outlook Contacts did not update form 2000 at all.

Summary: DO NOT INSTALL the Windows Search - it is buggy and slows the system (Windows XP Home) down to a crawl. Be prepared to learn the new menu options in Word which will slow you considerably if you are used to the ones Microsoft has used for 10 years. It is not a good improvement.

Summary: Office 2007 is a major step up from previous version, especially in Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. For those who crunch a lot of numbers, Excel 2007 allows more active cells. Finding and using formulas is more cut and dry with 2007 too. Powerpoint 2007 allows you to more easily create a professional presentation, with simple things such as arrows that line up better between boxes on a flow chart. In Outlook, flagged messages immediately become part of your task list, something I had to do manually with 2003. I find that the other programs in 2007 are more visually appealing, but not necessarily more user-friendly - but not less so, either! If any functions aren't easy for you to access with the new interface (for example, I use bullets often in Word), you can personalize a toolbar at the top of each program with the features that you want quick access to, so you won't lose anything with 2007!

Strengths: Full suite of all of the most needed office programs with virtually all necessary (and little used) features.

Weaknesses: Is not as intuitive as Office 2003. Requires relearning some basics. Has a new non-backward compatible format requiring separate save steps to be compatible.

Summary: The output formats from Word, Excel, and Power Point are different than the earlier versions of Office. In order to ensure backward compatibility, you must choose the output format when saving any data. I recommend spending time reviewing the changes from prior versions before doing any serious work. The time will be well-spent, saving attempts to get through a document using your experience, and most importantly, avoid sending incompatible data to others.

Strengths: The suite of products is excellent but I mainly use Word Excel and Access.At this point I can not say I find any major advantages to this version than 2003. However, this version does allow digital signatures and PDF creation much more readilly

Summary: Overall a very well-worth it upgrade. I started using this product when it was in Beta 2 in June of 2006 and have used it exclusively ever since as it is the best productivity suite I've ever used.

Strengths: Older version documents can be created, read, and edited. Not many serious bugs found so far. Very stable.

Weaknesses: The "ribbon" command interface makes command selection more complex and slower while taking up too much of the window. I don't care for it, and I haven't found any compelling reason for you to upgrade to Office 2007 if you are happy with any version from 2000 to 2003.

Summary: The most frustrating thing for me is that each upgrade of Microsoft Office seems to be written by an entirely different company than the prior version. Instead of building upon previous versions by retaining old capabilities and simply adding new ones, it seems that everything is reinvented. In the process, some capabilities are lost or become deeply buried. It is a major setback to my productivity and abilities each time I upgrade to a new version of Office. After 6 months with Office 2007, I am still not back to the same high level of proficiency as I was with Office 2000.

Strengths: As always it's nice to play with the new office features. Everything changes to xml format and probably ensures a long future using it and the new functionality it brings to non office applications including web based programming.

Weaknesses: Because everything switch to xml format, if used, it completly loses backwards compatiblility to older office editions unless xml reader updates are downloaded. The only real problem I ran into is finding a web host company that is ready to accept the new Access format. In time, this will no longer be an issue.

Summary: The entire layout changes again just to let you know you are using a new product. Once you get used to it, you'll find it nice. It's probably a better format if I wasn't used to the old one already. Typical for new Microsoft products, but the new sharing tools are nice and worth it.

Strengths: new MS Office features that were advertised

Weaknesses: Excel cannot save to dbf (dbase files) which many programs in the rest of the world still use. New menus make you hunt for features. New file formats not compatible with others who have not upgraded.

Summary: Taking away oft used functionality severly detracts from this product. Also, if you prefer an intuitive over a pretty interface you may want to reconsider this upgrade. Unless there is a new feature you really need, save money and frustration and stick to an older version.

Summary: This software appears to be more user friendly than Microsoft Office 2003. I especially like the many accessible command icons instead of trying to locate the dropdown menu commands. Weaknesses: It's not always obvious how to do some of the things that could easily be done on the older version. Also, I sent homework to a professor and he had trouble opening the file...apparently, it's not fully compatible with older versions. So, i have to remember to save in the old format if i'm sending out to someone.

Summary: Once I got used to where various functions could be accessed, I really liked the new version of Office Professional. I just wouldn't replace the old version with this version until I had time to play with it some - it takes time to learn at first, which is a little tough if you have deadlines to meet and have to use the software for a purpose & learn at the same time.

Weaknesses: Takes a tremendous amount of harddrive space. People without Office 2007 have to have a viewer wehn they are sent files created or saved in 2007 format, this is lame.

Weaknesses: "Ribbon" feature difficult to learn, steep learning curve from previous versions of Office

Summary: The new version of Office offers the same programs as in previous versions, albeit with a new UI. On just about all of the programs, the familiar menu items and toolbars are replaced with the "ribbon". This groups functions into new categories and uses pictures and icons instead of the usual menu items. You can do the same as in previous versions, and presumably some more, though it takes a long time to learn where everything is. Worse, the ribbon is seemingly static, not allowing the user to change the icons or ribbon tabs.
