NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches fill the gap between unmanaged and fully managed switches. The family of ProSafe Smart Switches is designed for growing businesses that want control over their network without the cost and complexity of a full Layer 2/Layer 3 management implementation. This second generation Smart Switch, FS726T, with affordable built-in gigabit power, easily connects to servers or a Gigabit-speed backbone for a non-stop 10/100/1000- enabled network that can quickly deliver large multimedia, image, and video files. With the utility of 10/100 Mbps ports, 2 copper 10/100/1000 ports and an SFP slot for optional fiber connectivity, growing business networks, classrooms and workgroups can benefit from superior performance and keep up with expanding network needs. This high-performance switch features a non-blocking wire-speed architecture with an 8.8 Gbps switching capacity for maximum data throughput. All RJ-45 ports automatically negotiate to the highest speed and support Auto Uplink technology to make the right link.
In addition, an intuitive, Web-browser interface offers the simple Smart Switch management, making it a snap to monitor switch performance, configure ports, even set up port trunks, VLANs, and traffic prioritization. Alternatively, use SNMP-based software to manage your Smart Switch. Shipped ready for use straight out of the box, it delivers switching that's easy to set up and use. NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Switches are ideal for adding basic management to your unmanaged networks and extending your managed networks.

Strengths: Very fast and easy to use
Weaknesses: Transferring files of 100GB+ puts a lot of strain on the switch.
Summary: Overall I am pleased with the performance of the GS105. I transfer a large amount of data weekly through the GS105 between several computers and I definitely see a performance difference compared to transferring files with other switches.

Strengths: Plug in setup...no settings required. Hook up power, plug in cables, wait 15 seconds, works perfectly.
Weaknesses: I wish the cables plugged into the rear so it would set correctly on top of my other two netgear products.
Summary: Defintely recommend buying this one. Simple & effective, solid performance. Makes backups to my server SOOOO much faster.

Strengths: Plug it in and it works.
Weaknesses: Nothing that I have seen.
Summary: I use the device to run a printer and I have not had any issues whatsoever. It is exremely passive ... just sits there and performs to and beyond what one should expect of a switch of this nature. I would higly recommend this devise for this application and any others that might be deemed appropriate.

Strengths: Design, Construction, Networking Flexibility/Auto-Sensing
Weaknesses: none
Summary: Netgear has always been top of the line in terms of construction and design. And Netgears unmanaged gigabit switches with autosensing on each port are absolutely the most competitive product on the market. You cant go wrong with these switches.
