Placed in the center of your digital home, it will revolutionize your home network both today and tomorrow! Advanced features, high storage capacity and lightning-fast performance let you store, share and protect files and digital media like never before.
Powered by an Intel multi-core processor and the RAIDiator operating system, the ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition is the fastest NAS in its class. It can easily handle over 14 simultaneous 1080p HD streams and blistering 100+ megabytes per second read/write speeds let you back up multiple computers, transfer large files and stream data all at the same time.
The compact 10" x 7" design of the ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer Edition is just slightly larger than the 6 drives it houses. Smart energy-saving modes like disk spin-down, a scheduled power timer, and Wake-on-LAN allow standby or power-off modes when not in use, lowering power bills, extending system life and consuming fewer resources. And, with strategically placed fans, the ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer runs quietly enough to live in any home, yet keeps your disks and components safely cooled.

Strengths: Ease of use, attractive design, plentiful storage, fast, good forum, good warranty, reliable (does not lock up or require any reboot or reset).
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: This NAS was easy to setup, is very reliable and is easy to operate. I used three Samsung Spinpoint 1TB drives in XRAID-2 (Netgear proprietary RAID). Each drive is 927GB with one allocated for redundancy, the total storage is 1.85TB. I also have an older NAS hooked up via USB to the Netgear and I can access without issue. The system has been just what I needed - provides ample storage and convenient, easy to use, bug free control interface. I have a MacBook with Leopard that I use to control the unit via Safari. AFP had issues with disconnecting so only use CIFS. I also inerface using mac mini with Tiger but cannot control using the Netgear Frontview since Radiator does not work with Tiger. I can still use Finder to connect and do basic file manipulation. Have not used Windows computers with it but will likely at some point. Also have EyeTV set to record to the Netgear NAS and it works flawlessly. I also stream from Netgear NAS to Netgear Enetrtainer 8000 and it works without issue - video is smooth and does not lock up or stop or stutter (standard definition only so far). I would definitely recommend the Netgear Pro NAS for someone that needs a lot of storage and needs a device that can work as a media server and requires a quality product.

Strengths: Fast. XRaid2 is quite a cool feature for dynamic disk upgrades. Pretty easy to install disks, set up and configure.
Weaknesses: It has a nice set of services, but it would be nice if there were additional or other service implentations could be added by user.
Summary: ReadyNAS is a great option for a home NAS device. It supports 6 disks and its XRaid2 technology (which now also supports 6 disks with the latest firmware) allows easy upgrade and addition of disks. (it also supports the usual RAIDs 1-5) It has dual ethernet connections, which is a bit over kill for home users, but could allow for failover functionality assuming the proper infrastructure. Some power saving options are also supported; shutdown/restart at given times and disk spin down when not active.(a UPS is recommended if the disk spin down is used.) USB interface is availble to add external disks (and I think a printer? - it can be a print server as well)
The Raidar application supplied allows the devices to be managed and configured remotely (it is managed through a web interface). The device supports wake on lan (it would be nice if Raidar supported this too and remembered the discovered devices when they were down)
The device supports an array of services,
File systems CIFS, NFS, AFP
Common services ftp, http, https, rsync
streaming servies: itunes server, upnp, squeeze box, home media, and bit torrent.
There is also good customer and user forum support.
There are other features, but I think I hit the highlights that I use.
