Strengths: Allows for a "wired" network connection without using dedicated network cabling. Any two power outlets become your network.
Weaknesses: Throughput depends on distance from eachother as well as house wiring specifics and enviornmental electrical noise.
Summary: I bought this unit so that I can place an additional wireless access point in my home to extend my coverage. My ISP provided a wireless router/modem, but it does not cover the entire house - especially the upstairs.
I simply connected one of the lan ports on the ISP's router to the NETGEAR XEPSB103, and then plugged in the other Netgear unit into an outlet upstairs. Instantly they found eachother and the bridge was working!
I then plugged my wireless access point (purchased seperately) into the upstairs unit and viola. Even the DHCP functions work through the bridge which you wouldn't think based on the diagrams on Netgears site and manuals.
I now have wireless coverage throughout my entire home.
I highly recommend this unit if you have a similar situation where running a dedicated network cable is too difficult.
