Strengths: The unit is small, efficient and relatively fast and runs off the USB power only. The resolution is very acceptable for graphics and text recognition.

Weaknesses: Perfect vertical alignment of the page for scanning graphics can be a little difficult. This is not a factor with text recognition.

Summary: The RoadWarrior takes significantly less desk space than standard scanners. It is mechanically sound and fast enough for all standard scanning tasks. Although it will suck out the battery life on of a laptop, a USB extender with an auxilary power supply eliminates that concern.

Strengths: Works in a pinch with a lower quality scan.

Weaknesses: Does not work with MS Vista yet. Unfortunately, the product is rendered useless on a field notebook running MS Vista.

Strengths: The hardware is compact, lightweight, and does a great job scanning (good paper handling, resolution, color).

Weaknesses: PaperPort software is REALLY SLOW.

Summary: Scanning direct to file is relatively quick, averaging about 16 seconds per page in B&W @ 300 dpi, about 30s per page for color. But if you want to scan into the PaperPort software to manipulate the scan in any way, it takes nearly a minute per page to scan and display! Functions such as auto crop and straighten are also maddeningly slow. Fortunately, the scanner feed mechanism handles paper quite well and it feeds straight with reasonable care. If sheets are fed into the scanner too quickly the software crashes, necessitating unplugging the scanner from the usb port and then plugging it back in... A minor annoyance. With practice you will learn how fast to feed pages. The OCR software does an accurate job, but, again, is slow. Overall: a functional product, but software needs improvement.

Strengths: Compact, USB-powered.

Weaknesses: Driver issues when used with PaperPort.

Summary: The new OneTouch driver doesn't play as nicely with PaperPort. They fight over which application does the image conversion, and when OneTouch wins, it can take 60 seconds to do the image conversion for a single image. Unacceptable! Also, you can no longer get it to scan to the currently-selected PaperPort folder. The driver also occasionally freaks out when paper misfeeds. Scanner has to be unplugged and replugged. I hope they will straighten out these issues. Given the chance, we would opt for one of the more expensive models (assuming they don't have the same issues with the new driver!!)
